Age Rating Questionnaire FAQs

Age rating information is mandatory for you to describe the intended audience of your app. Age ratings displayed on AppGallery help users find apps suitable for their ages, especially for minors.

1. Why do I need to fill out the age rating questionnaire to obtain the age rating result for my app?

AppGallery has recently released its new age rating questionnaire for developers to accurately rate app content, to help users find apps suitable for their age. By filling out this questionnaire in a truthful manner, you can obtain the accurate age rating of your app.

2. How do I fill out the age rating questionnaire?

You can find the questionnaire by going to Release app > Version information > Content rating. For details, please refer to the "Configuring Content Rating" section in Releasing an App.

3. Do I need to fill out the age rating questionnaire each time I submit an app release?

1) The questionnaire is newly released, so all apps, both released and to-be-released ones need to complete this questionnaire to obtain the accurate age rating.

2) If your app content or functions change, you need to fill out the age questionnaire again in a truthful manner, in case the app change may require an age rating change. False statements about your app content may lead to app removal or freezing.

3) The age rating questionnaire is subject to changes. When that happens, the system will notify you of the updates and prompt you to fill out the new questionnaire again.

4. What does "Rating rejected" mean during the questionnaire fill-out?

If the content rating result is Rating rejected, the possible cause may be that your app contains content that violates relevant laws or regulations, such as pornographic content, content that maliciously attacks others, and content that involves using or selling tobacco. If this happens, view the detailed rejection reason displayed, modify your app content, and upload your app again.

5. Why do I need to set an expected age rating in the questionnaire?

The questionnaire fill-out result will help generate the youngest age group applicable to your app. However, this app group does not have to be your app's final targeted youngest age group. Based on the audience that you want to target and the given youngest age group, you can select an expected age rating for your official release.

For example, if the age rating generated based on the questionnaire completion is 16+, but you think your app content is more suitable for users over 18 years old, select Rated 18+ as your expected age rating. After your app is released, its rate rating on AppGallery will be displayed as 18+.

6. I have completed the questionnaire multiple times with different answers, but the age rating result is always 18+. What happened?

1) Ensure that you have specified your app category. Otherwise, the age rating might be always 18+.

2) If your app category has already been specified, but the age rating result is still 18+, your app may contain content that is not suitable for minors. In this case, you can modify your app content, and fill out the questionnaire again.

7. How will the age rating result affect my app?

Age ratings displayed on AppGallery help users find apps suitable for their ages.

For users who have specified the age rating restriction under access restrictions on their devices, only apps within the allowed age rating range can be installed on these devices.

8. How do I modify my app content if the generated age rating result is different from that suggested in review comments?

Modify your app content according to the review comments, and then fill out the age rating questionnaire in a truthful manner based on your updated app content and functions. If the age rating generated this time still does not meet the review requirements, you can select an appropriate expected age rating.

9. The age rating questionnaire in AppGallery Connect has been updated and now provides an option for developers to confirm whether their app is intended only for kids. What impact will the setting have on app categorization?

After you complete the age rating questionnaire, your app will be assigned a content rating based on your responses. If the rating indicates that your app is intended only for kids, you will be asked to confirm the rating in a prompt (as shown in Figure 1). If you are sure that your app content is designed only for kids, select Yes (as shown in Figure 2) and ensure that your app has been categorized into the "Kids" category. Otherwise, your release or update will be rejected, and you will need to make changes as instructed.
