At Huawei Connect 2016, Huawei releases Communication as a Service (CloudCaaS) 2.0, which is based on a unified enablement platform and five open capabilities including real-time voice, real-time video, network QoS, location information, and third-party application integration. It constructs an ecosystem for win-win cooperation and changes carriers' network capabilities into various services that are integrated into all works of life.

Wang Songtao, vice president of Huawei Cloud Core Network Product Line, says that Huawei's booming development cannot be achieved without carriers. Huawei always wants to facilitate carriers' transformation. It is a long-term strategic pursuit of Huawei to help carriers open up their network capabilities. He points out that the network capability open platform plays a significant role in the Developer Enablement Plan. Mr. Wang also says that it is expected that CloudCaaS 2.0 will further speed up the development of the ecosystem. The number of partners is estimated to increase from 1500 to around 3000.

Huawei CloudCaaS explores the blue ocean of industry applications

The market of industry applications is becoming a new blue ocean for carriers and Huawei CloudCaaS opens this door for carriers. Huawei CloudCaaS redefines communication capabilities with an aim to open up these capabilities to carriers and change them into services.

Huawei CloudCaaS encapsulates carriers' communication capabilities such as voice call, video call, multimedia conference, click-to-dial, call center, and voice notification into application programming interfaces (APIs) or software development kits (SDKs) and provides these APIs and SDKs through the Internet. Partners can apply for and invoke these APIs and SDKs depending on their product requirements in a fast manner. This enables them to develop high-quality products with the lowest costs and within the shortest period, enhance their product competitiveness, and generate new revenue streams.

Liu Rongtai, vice president of Trend Micro, says that Huawei CloudCaaS minimizes communication barriers by making itself be applied into various basic modules, which is appealing to vendors that focus on enterprise and residential users.

Xu Chaobin, senior executive in the marketing department of Rockchip Electronics Co., Ltd., indicates that Huawei undoubtedly knows well about carriers' needs and requirements by building CloudCaaS as a bridge between carriers and other vendors. Currently, Rockchip cooperates with Huawei in fields covering real-time family videos and interactive family entertainment.

In the past, Huawei has reaped fruits in cooperating with leading carriers around the world to achieve service innovation and pipe capabilities based on open network communication capabilities. According to Mr. Wang Songtao's introduction, in terms of the real-time voice field, Huawei has developed more than 1500 partners and helped 500 enterprises in 18 different industries achieve the commercial use of services with the average monthly traffic volume exceeding 100 million minutes. In terms of the real-time video field, Huawei has created a new family-based industry that worths 100 billion RMB. More than 50 mainstream partners are aggregated in the family TV industry chain. In addition, Huawei has built nationwide OTT application acceleration platforms, providing application acceleration services for more than 10 partners and serving 13 million users. In average, the number of monthly API invocation times exceeds 3 million.

Huawei CloudCaaS 2.0 opens up five key capabilities

In succession to the big success of CloudCaaS 1.0, Huawei releases CloudCaaS 2.0 at Huawei Connect 2016. That is because Huawei Connect 2016 is open to the whole industry and all developers. It is an excellent communication and interaction platform for developers.

Mr. Wang Songtao says that CloudCaaS 2.0 opens up five capabilities in particular after the markets is reanalyzed and subdivided. The five capabilities are described as follows:

First, the real-time voice capability. On the basis of the commercial use of the voice API in CloudCaaS 1.0 over these years, CloudCaaS 2.0 provides scenario-specific and industry-oriented API kits, which meets partners' requirements for fast integration and invocation.

Second, the real-time video capability. With the popularization of video communication capabilities demonstrated in TV screens, PC screens, mobile phone screens, and cameras under the development of technologies in the VoLTE, SDK, and WebRTC fields, the era of video communication is coming. Huawei releases video development kits, which enables carriers' high-definition and short-delay real-time videos to be combined with industry applications. This makes it possible to bring better service experience to users in the fields of distance education, telemedicine, and Internet finance.

Third, the network QoS capability. With open network QoS capability, Huawei CloudCaaS 2.0 monitors the network quality when OTT applications are running. This ensures the network bandwidth and delay required by the proper running of applications and provides excellent experience for users.

Forth, the location information capability. Opening location information enables vertical industries to develop more innovative services, such as the indoor precision marketing and mobile payment security.

Fifth, the third-party application integration capability. Third-party software can be integrated quickly to facilitate hour-level service release, the intelligent service chain implements differentiated and optimized policy making, and the unified application management platform implements automatic management on third-party applications' scale-out/scale-in and redundancy.

Three measures create a booming ecosystem

Huawei CloudCaaS minimizes communication barriers, which provides a golden opportunity for the vertical industry and Internet enterprises to use communication capabilities. Meanwhile, Huawei takes a series of measures to back up its partners towards a prosperous ecosystem.

Huawei provides a comprehensive platform where easy-to-use development kits, RemoteLab for commissioning and verification, and professional expert support are available for developers and partners.

Huawei cooperates with carriers to help partners promote business and develop user base through both online and offline platforms, such as the application store, media publicity, and exhibition. With open capability platforms provided by carriers, user experience of partners can be guaranteed. In this way, users' sense of loyalty can be improved and more users are attracted.

In ecosystem aggregation, Huawei cooperates with its partners to set up the Home Real-time Video Industry Alliance. By pre-integrating products provided by chip vendors and intelligent hardware vendors, the communication service barriers are broken, more innovative applications are aggregated, and in-depth cooperation in industry innovation is shaped. In addition, Huawei works with carriers, manufacturers, and vertical industry partners to set up the MBB Interconnect Open Industry Alliance. Through sparkling of ideas, developing new technologies jointly, and sharing success experience, cross-industry innovations in the mobile broadband field are enhanced.

Mr. Wang Songtao says that the whole network capabilities will definitely be opened by carriers step by step in the future. With the development of digitalization, an increasing number of capabilities are also required. For example, the requirements for QoS capabilities in video services are increasing at present. Mr. Wang also points out that the market of Huawei CloudCaaS knows no bounds. With the release of CloudCaaS 2.0, Huawei will continue to cooperate with various partners in an effort to facilitate cross-industry service innovation and build a win-win industry ecosystem.
