As an important contributor to ICT standards, open source, and industry, Huawei engages in proposal and promotion of mainstream international standards. Huawei collaborates with partners to construct a win-win industry chain and ecosystem.
By December 31, 2015, Huawei holds over 280 core posts in over 300 standard organizations, industrial alliances, and open source communities. Furthermore, Huawei is also a board member in the IEEE-SA, ETSI, WFA, TMF, Openstack, Linaro, oneM2M, AII, BBF, OASIS, and CCSA. By December 31, 2015, Huawei has submitted a total number of 43,000 proposals, among which 4,800 were submitted in 2015.
In the IoT field, Huawei cooperates with IoT partners in creating the oneM2M organization and standardizing service platforms to reduce industry fragmentation. Huawei also promotes 3GPP and GSMA standardization and industrialization of NB-IoT, LTE-Vehicle, and wearable devices. Furthermore, Huawei's 30-odd positions in the world's premier IoT standards and industrial organizations are held at OSGi, OMA, IIC AIOTI, OCF, ZigBee, and Thread.
In 2016, Huawei joins more industry standard organizations and alliances and makes outstanding contributions.
1) Huawei IoT data model report was shortlisted in IoT Semantic Interoperability Workshop 2016 held by Internet Architecture Board (IAB).
In March 2016, IAB held the first IoT Semantic Interoperability Workshop, in which the IoT data model report Overview of IoT Semantics Landscape submitted by Huawei was shortlisted. This report has positive influence on international IoT data model interoperability standards.
2) Huawei leads OSGi and oneM2M industry cooperation and promotes IoT interconnection ecosystem development.
In March 2016, Huawei proposed and led interoperability cooperation between oneM2M and OSGi Alliance to solve the problems occurring in IoT connections and interoperability from low-layer framework, realize smooth interconnection between various IoT gateways and the IoT platform, and break barriers between different products, protocols, and industries. A new chapter is opened for IoT industry developments thereby.
3) Elected as the chairperson of IoT Expert Group in OSGi Alliance, Huawei promotes the IoT industry development.
In April 2016, Huawei was elected as the chairperson of IoT Expert Group in OSGi Alliance, which is another high-end position held by Huawei in international IoT standard industrial organizations. It also proves that Huawei is highly recognized by the industry for Huawei's devotion and contributions in leading the IoT industry development.
4) Huawei took part in oneM2M interoperability test to promote the IoT industrialization.
In May 2016, ETSI and Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) co-organized the second oneM2M Interop event in Korea, in which Huawei completed interoperability and consistency tests with 100% success ratio of test cases as an industry leader.
5) oneM2M launched Release 3 specification work and Huawei leads the IoT technology layout.
In May 2016, oneM2M launched Release 3 specification work at its 23rd technical plenary meeting. Initiated by Huawei, Data Distribution Service (DDS) usage for industry interaction and interworking with the OSGi for heterogeneous device access were approved as the first two work items of oneM2M Release 3. Huawei acted as the rapporteur of both work items.
6) Huawei released device management standard technology report in the IoT Software Update Workshop held by the IAB.
In June 2016, IAB held the IoT Software Update Workshop, in which Huawei released the oneM2M Device Management and Software/Firmware Update report on behalf of oneM2M. This report provides significant technical references for IoT device management and research which is the focus of the industry. It also contributes to industry promotion for oneM2M.
7) Huawei released a keynote speech in 2016 International Open IoT Technology and Standard Summit – W3C WoT WOG F2F Meeting to call on the industry to realize IoT standards interworking and collaboration.
In July 2016, Huawei released a keynote speech named IoT Standards Interworking & Collaboration in 2016 International Open IoT Technology and Standard Summit – W3C WoT WOG F2F Meeting on behalf of oneM2M. In the speech, Huawei not only introduced the efforts that oneM2M made in IoT standards collaboration from the aspects of technology interworking and standards, but also called on the industry to be more open to cooperation for the purpose of building a harmonious and unified IoT ecosystem.
