Applying for Verification

After applying for Health Service Kit, you are granted test scopes, which limit the number of users to 100. To remove the limit, submit a verification application to obtain formal scopes after you have completed the app development and before your app is released.

Self-check Before Verification

To ensure compliance with the data minimization principle, you need to check whether the data types used by your app are consistent with the scopes you have applied for when Applying for Health Service Kit. If your app only uses part of the scopes you have applied for, unselect the extra scopes on HUAWEI Developers before you submit the verification application.

NOTE

If you have applied for the exercise record scopes, pay special attention to the following:

  • The sampling statistical data types associated with an exercise record may vary by workout type.
  • You do not need to request OAuth scopes for each sampling statistical data type associated with an exercise record. This is because the sampling statistical data types associated with an exercise record are included in the summary data of ActivityRecord. You can access them with the scopes for accessing summary data of exercise records. For details, please refer to exercise record data overview.

Applying for Verification

  1. Sign in to HUAWEI Developers, access Console, and click Health Service Kit.

  2. Click Get verified, select the data permissions (at least one permission) to be verified, and submit the materials for approval by the expert group. The review period is about 15 working days.

We will notify you of the verification result (either of the following) via email.

    1. Verification successful: Your app can now integrate Health Service Kit.
    2. Verification application rejected: We will notify you of the rejection reason in the email. (You can also check the verification status on the Health Service Kit card on HUAWEI Developers.) Please modify your application as instructed and then submit it again. It takes also about 15 workdays for us to review your new application. If you have any other questions, please go to intelligent assistant for consultation.
    NOTE
    • After the application is approved, the scopes you have applied for will take effect in 24 hours.
    • For details about the checklist for app release, please refer to the App Release Checklist.xlsx.

FAQs About Applications Being Rejected for Commercial-Use Verification

The following lists typical FAQs about applications being rejected. Please read the following content before your application. If you have submitted an application and the application is rejected, modify the application materials by referring to the following solutions and submit them again.

NOTICE
  • Fill the self-check results correctly in the checklist. The proof materials for each scenario in the app release checklist you submit must comply with the standards in the checklist. Note that the video demonstrating the handling process in the corresponding scenario must be complete.
  • Check your materials carefully before submitting them, in case that your application is rejected.
  • Once your application is submitted for review, the app status changes to "to be verified". Any suggestions on revising the materials will be sent to you via hihealth@huawei.com. You can click Update to upload the latest materials and reply to the email for us to review the latest materials.

Privacy Statement

  • Requirements:

    1. The video needs to include the entry path for opening "Privacy Statement" within the app. The developer information and app name in the privacy statement must be consistent with the information provided on HUAWEI Developers.

    2. The privacy statement must clearly notify users of the types of user data to be obtained from Huawei Health and the usage of the data.

    3. If cross-border data transfer is involved, describe cross-border personal data transfer in detail by referring to Article 39 of Personal Information Protection Law. Make sure that the cross-border data transfer option is not selected by default.

  • Common problems:

    1. No entry is provided for the user to access the privacy statement, and no video is provided showing the privacy statement.

    2. Incorrect content in privacy statement: The corporation name and app name displayed on the screen are different from those used for verification.

    3. The actual app name, app name in the privacy statement, and app name used for verification are inconsistent.

    4. The privacy statement does not explicitly inform users of the types of user data to be obtained from Huawei Health and the usage of the data.

    5. The app involves cross-border data transfer, but does not notify users according to privacy requirements.

  • Solution:

    1. Provide an entry for the user to access the privacy statement, and a video showing the privacy statement.

    2. In the privacy statement, clarify the relationship between the actual app name, app name in the privacy statement, and app name used for verification (corporation name included; case-sensitive); or provide official documents, official emails, company seals, and other formal materials.

    3. The privacy statement must clearly notify users of the types of user data to be obtained from Huawei Health and the usage of the data.

    4. Notify users of cross-border data transfer if involved according to privacy requirements.

Brand Use

  • Requirements:

Use the text "HUAWEI Health" if your app needs to display Huawei-related text.

  • Common problems:

    1. Text like "Huawei", "Huawei Switch", or "Huawei band/watch" is displayed at the entry or in the prompt messages.

    2. The brand icon in use is not of the latest version, or Huawei icons are incorrectly used.

  • Solution:

    1. Use "HUAWEI Health" in the text.

    2. Use the HUAWEI Health logo in the app. Do not use the HUAWEI Health logo together with other texts.

User Permission Integrity

  • Requirements:

When users open the app for the first time, the authorization screen displayed should list the scopes you have selected for verification, and display the app icon properly.

  • Common problems:

    1. The scope list displayed on the authorization screen is inconsistent with the scopes selected for verification (all verified scopes and the scopes that have been verified this time).

    2. The app icon is missing on the authorization screen, or the app icon in use is inconsistent with the one used for applying for verification on the platform.

    3. The HUAWEI icon is displayed on the mobile app authorization screen.

  • Solution:

    1. Check whether the test scopes selected match your app scopes. (Do not apply for test scopes not being used, or display test scopes that are intended for commercial use but are still in the development phase on the authorization screen.) Deselect unnecessary scopes, and these scopes will remain as test scopes.

    2. You can change the app name or icon in either of the following ways:

    • Go to AppGallery Connect > Development and services, find the target app, and edit the app name and upload app icon in app information.
    • Visit the platform, go to App services > Development > HUAWEI ID, find the target app, and modify the app icon in app information.

    3. In the URL redirecting users' browser, change the last parameter display to touch, by referring to Authentication.

Authorization Canceling for Your App

  • Requirements:

Allow users to cancel the authorization granted to your app.

  • Common problems:
    1. Authorization cancellation is not integrated.
    2. The proof materials are not provided according to the acceptance criteria.
  • Solution:

    1. Integrate the authorization cancellation function. For details, please refer to Canceling Authorization.

    2. Provide proof materials according to the acceptance criteria.

Authorization Canceling via Huawei Health

  • Requirements:

When a user cancels authorization via the Huawei Health app, your app should be aware of the user operation and respond accordingly.

  • Common problems:
    1. When a user launches the app after having previously canceled authorization, no prompt or pop-up message is displayed to ask for user re-authorization.
    2. The proof materials are not provided according to the acceptance criteria.
    3. The path for cancelling authorization via the Huawei Health app is incorrect.
  • Solution:

    1. Display a prompt or pop-up message to ask for user re-authorization when a user launches the app after having previously canceled authorization.

    2. Provide proof materials according to the acceptance criteria.

    3. Make sure that the path for canceling authorization via the Huawei Health app is as follows: Open the Huawei Health app, touch Me and then the profile picture, go to Privacy center > Control account access, select the target app, and touch CANCEL AUTHORIZATION.

Alternatively, open the Huawei Health app, go to Me > Privacy management > Data sharing and authorization, select the target app, and cancel all authorizations granted to the app.

Partial Authorization Granting

  • Requirements:

    1. Granting only a part of the scopes should not affect users' ability of using the app. Users should be able to use basic app features when they grant only a part of the data scopes.

    2. If the authorization is insufficient, a message should be displayed, or users should be instructed to re-authorize.

  • Common problems:

    1. The app can be used only after the user grants all scopes.

    2. The app does not display a message indicating that the authorization is insufficient or instruct the user to re-authorize.

    3. Only one scope is applied for but no material is provided or the provided material is inaccurate.

  • Solution:

    1. Provide reasonable explanations or legal basis during the user authorization process if certain features can only be accessed after all data scopes are authorized.

Example of reasonable explanations: The calculation of stress models depends on data types including heart rate, steps, weight, and sleep. In this case, the stress model calculation feature is accessible only after all of the required data scopes are authorized.

Example of legal basis: Provide evidence of the local law not prohibiting the practice that "apps are not accessible to users unless all data scopes are authorized".

    2. Make sure that features with all required scopes authorized work properly. Display a reminder or instruct users to re-authorize when users try to use a feature for which they have not authorized relevant scopes.

    3. If you apply for or use only one scope, you'll also need to record a video for this scope. The video should show the difference on the authorization screen before and after this scope is selected.

User Operations on the HUAWEI Health Kit Switch (User Privacy Switch)

  • Requirements:

Your app should respond properly when the HUAWEI Health Kit switch (privacy switch) is turned off by a user in the Huawei Health app.

  • Common problems:
    1. This function is not available or no proof material is provided.
    2. An error occurs when the app API is called.
    3. There is a confusion of proof scenarios, with a wrong proof video provided.
    4. When a user turns off the switch, your app is unaware of the user operation and does not respond accordingly.
  • Solution:
    1. Support this function by referring to Open Authorization in Huawei Health and provide the corresponding proof materials.
    2. For details about API calling, refer to here.
    3. Disabling Health Service Kit:
      • Android users: Open the Huawei Health app, go to Me > Privacy management, and turn off HUAWEI Health Kit.
      • iOS users: Open the Huawei Health app, go to Me > Third party services, and turn off HUAWEI Health Kit.
    4. When a user turns off the switch, a prompt in your app or an HTML5 page should display indicating that the HUAWEI Health Kit switch needs to be turned on again upon future app usage.
