In mobile app or web development, ad redirection is a common business model. It guides users to tap an ad and redirects them to the target page (such as the app download page, product details page, or activity page) to monetize traffic or promote products.
Typical scenario: For example, a video app serves as the ad carrier. After a user taps a product ad in a splash ad, the system automatically redirects the user to the product details page of the app store. This improves the ad conversion rate and optimizes user experience.
This document focuses on the development of the ad target (for example, HUAWEI Store app) and describes how HUAWEI Store uses App Linking to efficiently open the product page from an external ad carrier (for example, Video app) and optimize various links such as those for uninstalled apps and delayed redirection, thereby achieving a complete ad monetization closed loop.
The ad redirection link involves two apps:
The redirection process is based on the App Linking capability and can be classified into the following scenarios:
The HUAWEI Store app has been installed.
When a user taps a product on the ad page of the Video app, the system directly launches HUAWEI Store through App Linking and redirects the user to the specified product details page.
HUAWEI Store is not installed, and the function of direct access to AppGallery has been configured.
After a user taps the ad, the system automatically redirects the user to the details page of the app on AppGallery. After the user downloads and installs the app, the user can directly access the product page through the deferred link when opening the app for the first time.
HUAWEI Store is not installed, and the function of direct access to AppGallery is not configured.
After a user taps the ad, the system opens the web page (product details page) of HUAWEI Store. The user can directly browse the page or follow the instructions on the page to download and install HUAWEI Store. If the user installs the app later, the original redirection intent can still be retained to directly access the product page.
Develop the product details web page.
If the ad carrier (for example, Video app) wants to directly open the product details web page of HUAWEI Store in its own app, set the appLinkingOnly parameter to true when calling the openLink() API. In this way, when the HUAWEI Store app cannot be launched, the system does not automatically redirect to the web page in the browser. Instead, the result is returned through the failure callback.
The ad provider (for example, Video app) can handle exceptions in the callback, for example, manually redirecting users to the product details page of HUAWEI Store, to implement more flexible redirection control.
(Optional) Configure the capability of direct access to AppGallery.
Implement the deferred link capability.
Provide standard App Linking links to the ad carrier (for example, Video app).
Provide the App Linking link of each product to the ad carrier (for example, Video app). After a user taps the ad, the openLink() API is called to implement redirection.
